#38: Farmer's Days
Tonight is the start of the local town festival. I’m not sure if this is a thing anywhere but Iowa. Seems like one weekend of the summer: each small town has a bunch of activities; rides, contests, food vendors, kind of like a county fair. It is a really big deal for those in the area. I personally could care less. I don’t really like seeing people I know because I don’t really care for most of them. It is an excuse to drink beer more or less, kind of like golfing or boating. It’s located basically the block across from my house. If I look out the window, I can see the beer tent, and I can also hear the band playing until all hours of the night. I have to get dressed after I finish writing this because tonight is the Prince and Princess contest, and my niece is in it. It is basically a contest of how cute a kid can be. As a kid, I won it all. The only thing I remember, is my mom making me do it and being interviewed on stage. I did a few Pokémon impressions. I’m sure some people thought it was cute. I ran into someone today who told me they were so excited for this weekend. They said no matter where they live, they always come back for this. I don’t know... I think that is kind of sad. I’ve traveled around (no place crazy far away), and this isn’t anything really that great. As a kid, I looked forward to the rides. Now I just go get some food and come home. The best part about the location of my house is that the parade route goes right by. I could literally watch from my second story in the air conditioning with a beer and no pants. Plus my family can park in my yard when going to the festivities. Hurray I get human interaction tonight...
