Day #1

Updated: Mar 16, 2019

I have to admit, I stole this idea. I love scrolling through kickstarter to find new reading material, often from people I have never heard of. Justin Barber’s project was a collection of writings. He had to write at least 100 words for 100 days in a row. He could talk about anything he wanted to. After the kickstarter funded, and I got the book in the mail, I loved it. I can’t say this is a book. its purpose was to be a writing exercise for myself, and I thought, well, maybe some people would want to read it, which leads us to now. Don’t worry, I asked for Justin Babrer’s permission, and he gave me his blessing. A quick like bio of who I am (for those who don’t know). My name is Austin Allen Hamblin, and I live in a small town in Iowa. I want to make my living by writing, mainly comics, but I just love to write, so I am willing to write anything. I hope to write a novel, a movie, a cartoon, become a New York Times Best Selling Author, and far beyond. Anything else you could ever want to know about me, you can find at www.hamblincomics.com and www.facebook.com/AustinAllenHamblin

#1: My Place

“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.” -Lao Tzu. Day one can be intimidating, especially when I think to myself, I have 99 more days after this to go. I figured I would start off and end with the same topic: where I am in life at this very moment. Right now I am sitting in a hand-me-down couch I was gifted from my parents when I moved out. Diagonal to the right of me sits Kayla,my fiancé, under a blanket playing Playstation 4. As of last week, I am unemployed, and I have put out over fifty applications: from hotel clerk to working at the “porn store.” Tomorrow I go and pick up my first CPAP machine, and holy cow, am I excited. I suffer from sleep apnea. I stop breathing many times throughout the night.Sometimes I wake up after a full eight hours of sleep feeling like I haven’t slept at all. I’m hoping this is the answer to my sleep problems because if you don’t get the rest you need, EVERYTHING becomes difficult. My three cats, which I’m sure you will hear about tons over the course of this writing exercise, are in the kitchen, just laying around being cats. I’m sure tonight they will be up all hours of the night, running around the house. In about an hour, my older cousin, Allen, will be coming over to hang out. He is technically my dad’s cousin on his mother’s side, but I’ve become really close with not only him, but also his brother Gary, over our common love for professional wrestling and comic books. They both come over at least once a month. Gary is out of town for some reason ,so Al and I are probably just going to watch some movies and, well, bullshit. I’m super excited because I have had a whole chicken in the crock pot for over twenty-four hours. With salt, pepper, onion powder, and a chopped up lemon. My entire house smells like it, and I can’t wait to dig in. I need to go pick up some soda and grab the mail, so I think I will have to call this it for today. Peace out, girl scout.

Everyday I will be posting an entry in my writing challenge 100 Days which has been collected into a print collection. If you are interested in purchasing a print collection: http://www.lulu.com/shop/austin-hamblin/100-days/paperback/product-23916414.html
